Wedding Planning 101

Coming up on our two year wedding anniversary, I realized that I’d never shared a blog post about my wedding planning tips. Let’s just say I learned a thing or two from watching all my friends get married, being a bridesmaid, a maid of honor and having my own wedding. Here are my most helpful tips and tricks to keep you organized and cool as a cucumber. You definitely don’t have to be bridezilla. πŸ˜‰

Asheville Wedding Weekend

Happy October, friends! It’s finally cold here and I can hardly keep myself from smiling. I literally love this time of year better than any other part of the year. Last weekend, we drove up to Asheville to see one of my best high school friends get married to the man of her dreams. The Biltmore is probably one of the prettiest wedding venues I’ve ever seen. Their ceremony overlooked the mountains at sunset and couldn’t have been more beautiful. I’ve said this before, but it’s always so sweet to get to see one of your best friends pledge to spend their life with the person they love most. I love getting to see my friends start marriages, families and adventures. There’s something just so special about witnessing your friends’ and loved ones’ big moments in life. :)

Our 1st Anniversary

This past Monday, Matt and I celebrated our first year of marriage. I just can’t even believe we’ve been married for an entire year already. It’s been the sweetest year with lots of challenges, laughter, joy, growing and learning. There’s no one I would rather have by my side as I try to figure out life. Here’s a look back on our wedding day and what I had to say about being married for 6 months! Also, here’s a video of our wedding day. It still makes me cry a bit πŸ˜‰

Bridal Shoot with Gold House Studio

My really talented childhood friend, Megan, has this adorable photography company called Gold House Studio. She has a magical way of making everyone feel comfortable when she’s taking photos and then her final product is always nothing short of stunning. Megan took some of our engagement photos (which you’ll see later this year) and all of my graduation photos, but this was one of my favorite photo shoots that we did together. Also, check out the rest of Megan’s work here. :)

Ps. I’ve got a new blog series kicking off next month and it’s all about really awesome people (like Megan) who have made their passion part of their job! Stay tuned, friends! Continue reading

How to be a great bridesmaid

If you’re in your twenties, you know that every year for the last five years has been “the year of the weddings.” The movie 27 Dresses has really taken on a deeper meaning for you, thanks to the number of wedding invitations on your fridge and retired bridesmaid dresses in your already overstuffed closet.

I’ve lost count of how many weddings I’ve been to in the last few years. Farm weddings, church weddings, plantation weddings, outdoor weddings, beach weddings, golf club weddings…you name it. I think we have 6 or 7 (including our own wedding) this year alone. There are few things that bring me greater joy than getting to see my friends find love and decide to love that person for the rest of their lives. I love marriage and I love love, so weddings are my kind of thing.

I’ve also had the privilege of being a bridesmaid to several friends as they’ve said their vows. I’ve helped bustle gowns (I can find those tiny buttons on any gown, any day), hold bouquets, dry up happy tears, pep talk, throw showers, direct picture time and wedding dress shop. And then when I got married, I somehow lucked out with the world’s greatest maid of honor (my sister) and bridesmaids. Seriously, these girls were lifesavers during wedding season and on the big day. Our Wedding Day

On April 11th I had the privilege of marrying the man I call my best friend. The fact that three months have already passed since our wedding day is really crazy to me. I mean, wasn’t I just stressing over details and doing the crazy wedding planning dance!? (By the way, out of state wedding planning is absolutely nuts). Before our wedding, I would pray all the time that our marriage would be far more beautiful and joyful than our wedding. Our wedding was beyond what I could’ve imagined, so this marriage has a lot to live up to. But honestly, I think it’s up for the challenge! It’s been a beautiful three months with lots of challenges, changes and adventures. I see why marriage is such a great thing and how it teaches you so much about yourself, your spouse and life.

Enjoy a few photos and details about our wedding attire, decorations and other ideas! These photos put the biggest smile on my face. Also, stay tuned for posts about lessons I’ve learned in marriage, wedding planning tips and details about our Italian honeymoon. Continue reading
