Since purchasing our home, it’s been a whirlwind of moving boxes, furniture, slight annoyances, repair men and visitors. We’re trying to get adjusting to owning a home, but it’s sometimes a lot to wrap your head around. We are finally ending this busy streak we’ve had going for about 4 months and I’m really excited to refocus our life a bit. More about that in a future post. 😉 But for now, I’m working on decorating (one of my favorite things to do) my living room. Here I’m sharing my living room inspiration and a few of my favorite resources for things like hanging artwork and paint colors we love. Happy decorating!
Our space in the living room is long and narrow, there are four windows but certain times of the day don’t bring in a ton of light. So I decided our bigger pieces needed to be white in order to brighten up the space. Our prettiest feature in the living room is this gorgeous white and brick fireplace. My father-in-law painted our house for us and we chose this amazing Bruton White from Benjamin Moore as our wall color. I love it because it’s gray but not a purple or blue gray.
For my wedding gift, Matt got me this IKEA world map that we’ve used as the center piece for our living room and everyone always seems to love it. Our current living room has really high ceilings, so this map helped fill up our overwhelmingly tall wall on one side of the space. Also, we just purchased this colorful rug, and once I had these two things, I finally had a direction for the room. We also already own a leather couch and my parents gave us this awesome Morris Chair that needs to be reupholstered. One of my favorite things about decorating is that you get to combine old things and things from different rooms. It’s nice to get some new things, but I always try to see what I can do with what I have first.
One of the projects I’m most excited about would definitely be the long awaited wall collage over our couch. We’ve been collecting travel prints and photos from places we’ve visited. We plan to frame them all in gold and white frames, and then arrange them above the couch.
Anyway, I hope you enjoyed my little bits of inspiration. I’m so excited to share this room when we’re done!
