Travel Bucket List

“Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things can not be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one’s lifetime.” -Mark Twain

I’m beginning to learn that the more you travel, the longer your bucket list seems to get. That’s just how it works. Never underestimate the power of travel to broaden your mind, teach you your place and educate you in a way that only traveling can. If you want to read more about the benefits of traveling and spending money on experiences rather than things, this is a great article.

Edinburgh, Scotland 2012 (Scotland is just so darn incredible.)

For Matt and I, travel has bonded us in so many ways, whether it’s travel to the next state over or across the ocean. My sweet wedding present from him was a giant canvas world map that’s the center piece of our living room. I really couldn’t think of a more perfect gift and I can’t wait to mark off more places on the map. I think it’s so important to travel with your loved ones, especially your spouse, because it enriches everything about your relationship. My trips with family and friends have all been experiences (good and bad) that helped shape my way of thinking and brought us sweet memories. Two trips that had the biggest impact on my life were my first missions trip to Costa Rica and my summer abroad at Cambridge in the UK. If you ever get the chance to do either of these types of trips…DO IT! Both of these trips made me a more grateful person and gave me a little more perspective on life.

Also, I don’t know if you have ever noticed this, but traveling together can make or break a relationship. I mean, Mark Twain knew what he was talking about when he also said this: “I have found out that there ain’t no surer way to find out whether you like people or hate them than to travel with them.” I think the reason for this has a lot to do with the fact that travel brings out the best and worst in us. It takes us out of our comfort zone and stretches us in ways we need to be stretched.

I’ll leave you with my travel bucket list! I hope you either already have one or decide to create one too. :) Also, enjoy a few of my favorite travel photos from the last few years!

New York City 2011. This is one of my favorite pictures from my favorite city. I think it's pretty safe to say I fell in love back in high school when I went for the first time. It'll always have a special place in my heart and I'll be sharing why in November! :)
